GCC Accreditation Centre opens branch in Oman
Muscat: Represented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Sultanate of Oman on Sunday marked World Accreditation Day which is celebrated this year under the theme of “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future”.
The theme focuses on the significance of accreditation amid rapid global developments.
Oman’s celebration included the opening of a branch for the Gulf Accreditation Centre (GAC) in the Sultanate of Oman.
The centre will help devise a roadmap for the National Accreditation Centre. Besides providing training for accreditation employees, the centre will pave the way for Oman to obtain recognition from regional and international accreditation organisations.
The Ministry is implementing an initiative to establish a national accreditation centre to be known as “Oman Accreditation Centre”, which will help government and private assessment bodies ensure the presence of quality products in the markets of the Sultanate of Oman.
The centre will represent Oman at regional and international forums related to accreditation. It will also sign mutual recognition agreements with accreditation bodies from various countries of the world, thus receive mutual recognition certificates.
As part of Oman’s celebration of the event, a workshop was organised under the theme of “Empowering laboratories to identify the challenges facing the laboratory sector”.
The workshop focused on identifying challenges facing the inventorying of laboratories and appropriate solutions.
It also looked into ways of simplifying procedures and drafting laws to regulate the sector in cooperation with government departments, suppliers and maintenance companies serving the government and private sectors.
