Oman Showcases Technological Advancements at LEAP 2025 in Riyadh

The Sultanate of Oman has once again marked its presence on the global stage, participating in the prestigious LEAP 2025 exhibition and conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT), Oman’s pavilion at this event underscores the country’s continued commitment to technological innovation, digital transformation, and fostering international collaborations.
Taking place from February 9 to February 12, 2025, LEAP 2025 is one of the largest and most prominent technology events in the Middle East. With the theme “Into New Worlds,” the conference brings together 18 countries, 1,800 exhibitors, 630 emerging technology companies, and over 1,000 speakers from various corners of the globe. It serves as a platform for innovation and knowledge exchange across various technology domains such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, telecommunications, and the digital economy.
Oman’s participation in LEAP 2025 is particularly significant as it marks the third consecutive year the country has been part of the exhibition. As part of its strategic push to expand its digital economy and position itself as a leader in technological development in the region, the Sultanate’s pavilion is hosting 47 entities, including both government institutions and private technology firms.
Among the notable participants are the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, represented by the “Invest Easy” platform, and prominent Omani companies such as Omantel, the Oman Information and Communications Technology Group (ITHCA), and 37 Omani technology startups. The goal is to showcase Oman’s technology-driven growth and create opportunities for its local firms to expand their presence in regional and global markets. The exhibition also provides an opportunity for Oman to highlight its digital investment prospects, emphasizing its potential as an attractive destination for international investors and tech companies.
This year’s exhibition also stands out with the signing of several important agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Omani technology startups and global industry leaders. One of the highlights was the signing of a significant agreement worth US$10 million between the Global Semiconductor and Microelectronics Company (GSME) — a company established in Oman in an international partnership — and Saudi company e-Photonics. The collaboration focuses on the development of semiconductor technologies, electronics, and 3D computer vision solutions. This partnership marks a significant step in advancing research, development, and innovation in the semiconductor industry and lays the foundation for future collaboration between Omani and Saudi companies in the tech sector.
Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shaidhani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Communications, officiated the opening ceremony of Oman’s pavilion at the event. In his address, Dr. Al Shaidhani emphasized the importance of the Sultanate’s participation in international technology events like LEAP 2025, noting that it aligns with Oman’s broader vision to foster technological innovation, support startups, and promote the digitalization of key sectors.
The LEAP 2025 event also serves as a vital platform for Omani startups to network with international companies, explore new markets, and forge strategic partnerships. Over the years, the Sultanate’s government has actively supported the growth of its technology sector, providing infrastructure, incentives, and regulatory support for emerging companies. Oman’s participation in LEAP further reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing its position in the global technology landscape.
For the 37 Omani startups at the event, this exposure is invaluable, allowing them to demonstrate their innovative products and services to a global audience of industry professionals, potential investors, and collaborators. These startups represent a diverse range of sectors, including software development, AI, cybersecurity, and digital services, showcasing Oman’s emerging role as a hub for tech innovation in the region.
One of the key focuses of Oman’s participation is promoting digital transformation within the country and across the region. The Sultanate has prioritized technology and innovation as key pillars of its national economic strategy, aiming to diversify away from traditional oil-based revenues. The country’s efforts to encourage investment in technology, enhance its digital infrastructure, and foster entrepreneurship are central to its vision for a knowledge-based economy.
The LEAP 2025 conference is a critical part of the broader push to establish the Middle East as a global leader in technological innovation. As Oman continues to participate in such high-profile events, it seeks to strengthen its global partnerships and expand the reach of its burgeoning tech sector.
This year’s event also highlights the growing role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a major player in the Middle Eastern technology ecosystem. With its robust focus on digital transformation, Riyadh is positioning itself as a tech hub, attracting leading international tech companies and startups. By participating in LEAP, Oman not only strengthens bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia but also helps cement its place in the broader regional digital economy.
As the LEAP 2025 exhibition continues over the coming days, Oman’s presence at the event is expected to yield further business opportunities and collaborations for its tech industry. With the government’s continued investment in digital infrastructure and its support for local startups, the Sultanate is poised to play a key role in the future of regional and global technology markets.
In conclusion, Oman’s participation in LEAP 2025 showcases the Sultanate’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation. Through collaborations with international partners and support for its local startups, Oman is positioning itself as a leader in the digital economy, offering promising opportunities for growth and investment in the region’s rapidly evolving tech sector.
