Abu Dhabi Asian Le Mans Series title showdown for Al Zubair, Schiller and Liu in the Al-Manar racing by Getspeed Mercedes
MUSCAT: The 2023/2024 Asian Le Mans Series concludes at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit this weekend. The Al-Manar Racing by Getspeed team is aiming to secure the GT Team and Driver Trophies.
The championship will be decided over two 4H of Abu Dhabi races on Saturday and Sunday (February 10th-11th).
Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair, Germany’s Fabian Schiller and China’s Anthony Liu will crew the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and hope to build upon the second place they achieved at last weekend’s third race of the campaign in Dubai. That excellent performance has consolidated third places in the respective championships for Al-Zubair and Schiller behind the Pure Rxcing trio of Klaus Bachler, Joel Sturm and Alex Malykhin in a Porsche 911 GT3 R and Saintéloc Racing’s Christopher Haase, Gilles Magnus and Alban Varutti.
Pure Rxcing takes a 14-point cushion over Saintéloc Racing into the battle for the Teams’ title with Al-Manar Racing by Getspeed just one point behind.
Al Zubair said: “We are currently third in the championship, just one point behind second and 14 behind the leaders, so Abu Dhabi will be all or nothing for us. We aim to go for two wins. We know it will be difficult but we will try our best.”
The Yas Marina circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke and was established in 2009. It is one of the most popular race circuits in Asia and traditionally hosts the final round of the FIA Formula One World Championship.
After free practice on Friday (February 9th), qualifying for the GT class takes centre stage from 10.45hrs on Saturday (February 10th) and precedes the first of the four-hour races, starting at 15.00hrs.
The second 4H of Abu Dhabi fires into life at 16.00hrs on Sunday (February 11th).
