Kuwait, Saudi approve study for railway link
KUWAIT: Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr Noura Al-Mashaan announced on Thursday the Kuwaiti-Saudi High Steering Committee has approved the feasibility study outcomes for the railway connection project between Kuwait City and Riyadh at its sixth meeting.
“The agreement between the two brotherly countries reflects a shared will to build a sustainable and interconnected future in the region,” Mashaan said in a statement to KUNA. She welcomed the visit of the Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Transport and Logistics Saleh Al-Jasser, describing the visit as “an important step” in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
Mashaan added that this visit represents an effective bridge for exchanging expertise and deepening regional partnerships, culminating in the sixth meeting of the steering
committee with the approval of this agreement. She confirmed “the study extended for six months and the teams from both countries were able to overcome obstacles through intensified efforts and several workshops in various fields”.
She said the meetings were held almost daily virtually between the project management teams from both countries, which increased intellectual and developmental communication for building the project.
She affirmed Kuwait continues to welcome such initiatives, which contribute to driving economic development and expanding the horizons of integration among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. She emphasized the importance of joint work, indicating that this project will open new horizons for transportation and logistics services, benefiting both the Kuwaiti and Saudi peoples.
Jasser expressed his deep satisfaction with the outcomes of the discussions at the high steeringcommittee meeting, which aimed to enhance cooperation and integration between the two brotherly countries. Jasser said the meetings with Kuwaiti officials were “extremely fruitful” and characterized by a constructive spirit and a mutual desire for further cooperation in the field of transportation and logistics services.
He added this visit came in response to the directives of the higher leaderships of the two brotherly countries, aiming to enhance economic development, trade and communication between the two peoples, looking forward to more connectivity and infrastructure integration that serves the common interests. -KUNA
